V is for Volcano

This morning we are doing a really fun glitter volcano. It is cheap and simple to make.

  1. play dough
  2. baking soda
  3. vinegar
  4. pan
  5. towel
  6. toys to enjoy the fun with you

First we went over the letter V sound it out say it a few time trace it. Then I introduce the project we are doing in correlation with the new letter. I thought it would be cool to look up a old Bill Nye the Science Guy video to get her excited about it. I had to sit with her and explain a lot but she was really excited about it and got into it.

Here is the the video.

We only watched about half of it. I learned some things I didn't even know so it was a neat learning experience for both. Yes most of it was over her head but anyone can enjoy the big eruptions they display in the clip.

First I made a mound of play dough with a big hole in it. She helped me sprinkle glitter into it. If you don't have glitter no big deal. I just thought it added to the fun.
(please excuse my dirty table we often do our projects after Lucky charms and coffee lol)

Peppa pig are often our favorite toys to play with around here.

The rest is pretty self explanatory add a little baking soda and some white vinegar and watch it go!

clean up was not to bad she really enjoyed watching it bubble up. The play dough is a lost cause I just tossed it out.

Happy erupting!
