Reach out a hand to Jesus

Last Sunday we covered the Miracle of the woman healed by reaching out to Jesus. 

 (Luke 8:43-48; Mark 5:25-34)

We started by reading the scripture and then got into a circle. 

One child was blindfolded while I secretly would signal another student to tap them. It was amazing to me how the students most often could tell whom it was. 

We spoke about how despite Jesus being in such a crowded place He new someone touched Him for healing. 

What faith it took for her to even come into town when she was an outcast! 

Our supply's for our craft were simple

However the children really seemed to enjoy blowing up the gloves over and over again.

Jesus heals the blind man

Last week in Sunday school we looked at the story of the blind man. Healed by Jesus whom spat on the ground and covered his eyes in mud 👀 

We did our thanks to God our prayers and concerns and talked about our week as usual. It's so wonderful to get together on Sunday with the children. I am always so happy to hear about their week. 

After that we watched a short video

This lesson is awesome because it shows us God as the creator. He spits on the ground to make a clay to put on the mans eyes. God now here before them in flesh though He is the son He has also always been. "In the beginning there was the Word and the Word was God" 

Jesus is that very Word. 

We also talked about the  Pharisees and how they distorted Gods commandments so much. One rule was you were not to spit on the ground because it could make clay. Making clay was considered work. So much so that you were supposed to find a tree or some other place to spit for fear you would break this "rule" The day he healed the man was on a sabbath. How cool is Jesus ?!? Pretty cool if you ask me! He didn't care one hoot if that got the Pharisees worked up in fact He is making an important point here. 

That their rules over Gods people would be broken. 

Now... two weeks in a row I have flopped on our slime. It was supposed to represent mud but ended up flesh colored so use your imagination. The kids had fun none the less. For me that was good enough!

Jesus heals the paralytic

Well a big thanks to Mrs Jess for taking over Sunday school class for us. I missed theses kids though 😀

This is such a picture of love and dedication of faith. This guys friends carried him who knows how far and when the door was shut they didn't take no for an answer. 

How many of us would drag a friend up on a roof rip a hole in it and lower them down in faith. 

Jesus doesn't seem to bat an eyelash healing the man who has come from the ceiling. What a wonderful God we serve. 

The children worked on making boxes with flaps on the top they could pull back and lower their lame man into. 

They used little felt squares for his mat.

Covering the roof with "mud". We learned that many of the roofs back in this time where made of mud and straw.

As always we did our prayers and concerns. Practiced the Lord's Prayer and had a snack.

Water into wine

Water into wine

 

This week in Sunday school we talked about the wedding in Cana where Jesus turned water into wine. 

 

Before Sunday school I put sugar and kool aid in a pitcher. 

That way when I poured in the water I would have this lovely grand reveal of a purple drink as our " wine" .

That would however worked beautifully if my daughter had not blurted out my secret at the beginning of class 😭. Kids what can you do ❤️

 

We have been talking about the trinity and creation and this lesson was a great opportunity to tie some of that together. Jesus shows us not only is he the son of God he is God the creator. Not only did he create wine He created perfectly aged wine to perfection. 

We are looking forward to covering more of Jesus miracles in the upcoming weeks.

Disciples

Fishers of men

This weekend Sunday school, we talked about what it means to be fishers of men. We also went over the 12 disciples of Jesus. 

 

Our wonderful Sunday school friends have taken to putting up messages on our bulletin board for everyone each week. Makes me happy when I read them 😁

 

   

I made paper fish with paperclips on them with each of the 12 disciples names. We got a pole with a rope and a magnet on it so the kids could go fishing. On the back of each fish was a question from our Sunday school lesson. The children had fun fishing this Sunday.

For snack we had red rope licorice pretzel rod, fishing rods and Fish crackers 

We also finished our Mother's Day planters.

Peter

Peter walks on water

 

This week in Sunday school the children learned more about Peter. We learned there is much more to Peter then him denying Christ. He was a wonderful disciple for the kingdoms of God. We also learned how relatable Peter is to each one of us. I don't know about you but I total relate to Peters many fumblings throughout scripture. It also gives me hope to know that a great man of God still didn't get it right all of the time. 

 

I love this scripture. We often focus on Peters lack of faith that makes Him sink. I think it's amazing the faith He had to step out onto the water in the first place. I am not so sure I could do it myself. For our "craft" we had a makeshift boat out of cardboard. I had the children write on the inside or draw pictures of what would keep someone from stepping out in faith. On the outside we wrote or drew how we felt when we stepped out in faith and trusted God. 

  

What a wonderful time of fellowship we had in our little cardboard boat. So much I think we will leave it up this week as well. 

I sent the children home with more stories about peter so they could get to know his story and his ministry a little better with their parents. 

We had beach themed pudding cups for snack with gummie fish and graham cracker sand.

Easter Sunday school

The Tomb is

Empty!

 

Praise God, what a blessed Easter indeed. The tomb was empty He rose again! 

This week in Sunday school the children and I went over prayers and concerns and moved onto learning the Lord's Prayer. They are really getting it down pat. 

I found this wonderful version of the Easter story by Max Lucado (and who doesn't love Max) the story was wonderful and I think each age group could glean something from it. I absolutely love the rich illustration. 

We spoke about the story afterward and talked about resserection power. The power of Christ through the Holy Spirit whom lives in us when we except Christ as our savior. I had the children go on a egg hunt around the room. They found eggs with popcorn kernels inside. 

 

I proposed the question... 

does it have a heartbeat?

Is it alive?

What else can you tell me you observe from this simple kernel of corn? 

God put the power for this simple kernel of corn to pop into

 

(Then we opened another egg and had the popped corn)

This lovely fluffy white edible treat. 

The power of God inside us is similar.  When we use the power that Gods put inside us, we can do amazing things for his kingdom. 

 

We handed out little treat bags with a reminder that they have the resurrection power inside them. To not forget Gods love , how he gave His Son to die for us so we too could partake in the power of the Holy Spirit. 

“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

Happy Easter 

The last supper

We talked about the last supper in Sunday school class this week. 

These are just my kids we did have 6 total today in Sunday school. We enjoyed taking the lords supper and learning what it stands for. I also gave the children an opportunity to come to Christ and ask Him into their hearts. 

 

Afterwards the children did a feet washing craft and we talked about that Bible story and what it means. 

The last supper

Jesus washed the disciples feet and told them they should do the same for one another. 

“So if I, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet as well.”

Jesus washing his disciples feet showed that even though He was and is the king of kings He was a Servant and wanted to teach us how to serve and love one another. He also is showing us that once you are saved. Once you ask Jesus into your heart your heart is clean of sin. You are his. But we do need continual cleansing from the effects of living in the flesh in a sin-cursed world. The continual washing of sanctification is done by the power of the Holy Spirit, who lives within us, through the “washing of water by the Word” (Ephesians 5:26), given to us to equip us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16–17)

Parable of the sower

Parable of the sower 

 

Today we are talking about the parable of the sower. 

The Bible shares many parables about life as a Christian but none so clear about the different walks of Christian paths we all have the choice to take. 

When we becom born again it's an amazing thing. We are made new through Christ Jesus and nothing can take that away from us. The journey just starts there though. The Bible warns us that we will indeed see troubles. This parable shows us the different ways the devil try's to stunt our growth in faith. 

I wanted the children to know that their foundation is so important to their walk. We want to plant this beautiful seed of Christ in our hearts so it can grow and yield many many more for the kingdom of God. 

 

As usual I found some great resource's online that so would like to share here for others to use.

I used this as a read along and a take home page for the children. It helped keep them engaged in the story and the little ones can follow along with the photos. 

We also watched this video. 

There are many different videos on the web but I liked this one the most. It's clear and fun. The characters are cute and easy to understand. 

For our craft we used water bottles cut in half 

 

Filled them with dirt and planted pansey seeds in them. We talked about sharing the gospel with others and making sure our feet are firmly planted in Christ. 

I am chosen and called by God to produce fruit.

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” John 15:16

You are special 

 

We read this book in Sunday school this week. It ties in from last weeks creation lesson. Gods creation Is special and his children, even more so. 

It's such a sweet story it's definitely one of my favorites. 

In the story the Characters are Wemmicks, wooden people created by their maker Eli. The wemmicks spend all day giving each other stars and dots. Stars are for the talented or beautiful wemmicks and dots for the not so. 

 

Punchinello is one of the wemmicks who gets only gray dots. One day he runs into Lucia who has no dots or stars and he wants to find out what her secret is. Turns out it's that she spends time with Eli. By spending time with her creator she learns to not care what others think. The stars and dots just don't stick. 

 

The children and I talked about what makes them special after the story was over. We talked about spending time in prayer with God Our Elohim, which is a Hebrew name for God our creator.  

 

For our craft today we made little wooden people we colored with paint markers. I found these little wooden gingerbread men at Michaels. A pack of four for $1.75. They are small a little larger than a quarter. They are To remind the children to pray and that what God thinks about us is what really matters. 

 

I pray that each one of them always knows how special they are.

Space themed Sunday school lesson

Even the stars praise his name psalms 148

     This week we are looking at creation from space! When I think about the vast unknown expanses of space and the amazing stars and planets I can't help but be in total awe.

 

I know I am not the first person to have my breath taken away by the universe our amazing Father has created. 

Many astronauts have felt moved by our creator while in space.Astronaut Frank Borman looked down on the earth 250,000 miles away and quoted Genesis stating he had an enormous feeling that there was a God and there was a beginning. 

Another astronaut James Irwin later became a preacher his experience with God was so powerful. 

Astronaut Guy gardener frequently speaks to churches on the reality of God. 

Neil Armstrong had a deep experience as well and even took communion while in space. 

Then there is John Glen who stated "To look out at this kind of creation and not believe in God is to me impossible." There are many more and it's no surprise. I can't  imagine it not being a very strong feeling of the Lord all around you.

Our king is a star breather.

We spoke of creation Adam and Eve and touched lightly on the fall. Fellowshiping with our wonderful Lord. 

As for our craft I wanted something that the children could take home and remember how powerful God is and what beauty He created for them. I thought thes galaxy or nebula jars would work nicely. 

 

We tried so many different methods throughout the week. The green one we used cotton balls and water and food color. The baby food jar is diaper fluff and paint and food color and the mason jar is our "sun" it's also diaper fluff and water food color and glitter. 

You can do lots of variations and get many different effects. 

I printed out some thumbnails of some scripture to put on their jars andddd didn't get a chance to put them on of course. 

 

To make the "fluff" to go inside the jars we took clean diapers and soaked them with two cups of water. Then opened up the diaper and poured out all the cotton and gel. I used about 4 diapers and that filled 10 jars with plenty left over. 

 

 

The kids enjoyed working with it. We had a couple children that made three jars each. 

They put about three tablespoons worth of fluff  added dye and glitter and a little more water and then kept layering fluff, a couple drops of dye, glitter, then another tablespoon of water. Stiring each layer inbetween with a chopstick. But not to vigorously as we wanted a separation of color. 

I would definitely do this craft again. I had a class of 2-11 year olds and it was fun for everyone. 

Unfortunately I didn't get to photograph all of them but here are a few my children did.
